Terms and conditions

Last updated: 30 March 2026

1. Who we are

These terms and conditions ("Terms") govern your use of Signage Remote (the "Software"): the Android player application, the browser-based web controller, and related infrastructure we operate (including signaling services) as described on our website and documentation.

We refer to ourselves as "we", "us", or "bytebased".

2. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, activating, or using the Software, or by accessing our web controller in connection with a session, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Software on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity.

3. License

Subject to payment of applicable fees and compliance with these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Software during the license term you purchased, solely for your internal business purposes to operate and support your own Android signage or kiosk devices.

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, one license covers one active Android player device (one deployed screen) for a period of one year from the date of activation. Additional devices require additional licenses.

When the license period expires, the Software will cease to function on the licensed device. To continue using the Software, a new license key must be purchased.

You must not:

4. License keys and activation

We may require a valid license key or account validation for the Software to operate. Keys are confidential. You are responsible for keys issued to you and for any use under them. We may suspend or revoke keys in case of misuse or non-payment.

5. Pricing and payment

The current price is EUR 20 per screen per year. Prices are subject to change for future license periods. Any price change will not affect licenses already purchased.

Licenses are sold through Paddle.com Market Ltd (“Paddle”), which acts as our Merchant of Record. Paddle processes payment, issues receipts, and handles tax compliance for each transaction. The license to use the Software is granted by bytebased as set out in these Terms and in your order confirmation. Fees, renewal, refunds, and chargebacks are also subject to Paddle’s Buyer Terms.

6. Delivery, refunds, and problems

Delivery: When we make the Software (APK) or your license key available to you, your purchase is fulfilled. The Software is a digital product delivered electronically.

Refunds: All payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd (“Paddle”), which acts as our Merchant of Record. Refunds are handled in accordance with Paddle’s refund policy and our Refund policy. Depending on your region, you may request a refund within 14 days, 7 days, or 5 days of the transaction date. See our Refund policy for the full breakdown by region.

Problems: If something does not work as described, contact contact@signageremote.com or visit paddle.net for support. We will review your report and work to resolve the issue. Where a material defect is confirmed, a refund will be issued in accordance with applicable consumer protection laws.

7. Acceptable use

You are responsible for how you use remote control. You will only use the Software on devices you own or are authorized to manage, and only in compliance with applicable law, workplace policies, and data protection obligations. You will not use the Software to harm, harass, spy on individuals without legal basis, or circumvent security of systems you are not authorized to access.

8. Third-party services and infrastructure

The Software may rely on third-party networks, WebRTC, TURN relays, device permissions (including Android Accessibility), and hosting. Your use of those components is subject to their respective terms and limitations. Our privacy policy describes how we process personal data in connection with the service.

9. Updates

Updates to the Android player application or the web controller may be released during the license period at our sole discretion. There is no obligation to provide updates, new features, or continued compatibility with future Android versions beyond what is available at the time of purchase.

We may discontinue features or versions where reasonably necessary (for example, for security or compatibility). We will aim to communicate material adverse changes where practical.

10. Availability and support

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The service depends on networks, devices, and third parties outside our control. Support channels and response times are as described on the website or in your order unless we agree otherwise in a separate contract.

11. Intellectual property

We and our licensors retain all rights in the Software, branding, and documentation. Except for the limited license in section 3, no rights are granted.

12. Warranty

The Software is provided "as is" to the extent permitted by law. We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement where legally permissible. Statutory rights for consumers that cannot be waived remain unaffected.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to the Software or these Terms.

Our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Software or these Terms shall not exceed the fees you paid to us for the Software in the twelve (12) months before the claim (or, if you are on a free trial or have paid nothing, fifty euros (EUR 50)). Mandatory liability (for example, under Austrian law for personal injury or intent) remains unaffected.

14. Term and termination

The license runs for the paid term of one year. It ends automatically when the term expires, if you breach these Terms and we terminate, or if you stop paying where payment is required. Upon termination you must cease use and destroy copies in your possession (except backups kept solely as required by law).

Refunds in connection with termination are handled in accordance with our Refund policy and Paddle’s refund policy.

Sections that by nature should survive (including 11, 12, 13, 15, 16) survive termination.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will use reasonable means to notify you (for example, email or in-app notice). Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms where permitted by law.

16. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Austria, excluding conflict-of-law rules. For disputes with merchants (Unternehmer) within the meaning of the Austrian Consumer Protection Act, the courts of Vienna, Austria have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing in this section limits mandatory consumer protections where you qualify as a consumer and the law does not allow a choice of forum.

17. Consumers (digital content)

If you are a consumer, you may have statutory withdrawal and refund rights depending on your region. These rights are described in our Refund policy and in Paddle’s refund policy. Nothing in these Terms limits your mandatory consumer rights under applicable law.
